The book begins on a farm in 1941 and graduation from high school. Next is an enlistment at Penn State as a Cadet in the Army Air Corps. Highlights of his training follows. The 30 missions flown in the 398th Bomb Group are discussed individually, including survival of three plane crashes. The book finishes with an assessment of the effectiveness of the German bombing campaign in shortening the war, and a recent investigation of the murders of his crewmates in Germany.
