Web Statistics

  1. 398th Web Stats
  2. Simple Interpretation of Web Statistics
    1. Visits: This one approximates the number of visits to our pages. This is the one usually quoted or counted. If someone visits the site once a day for 30 days this is 30 visits. Unique visitors is another matter and not easily determined.
    2. Pages: This is what is known as page views. If someone looks at four pages in one visit, this is four pages views.
    3. KBytes: The amount of data transferred from our site to the user. If someone looks at a page with a 100K picture, then 100 KBytes are transferred to their computer.
    4. Hits: Requests to our Server whether or not it was a good address.
    5. Files:Hits resulting in sending something back. If a page has text and a two pictures, then 3 files are sent back. The same is true for hits. Thus, Pages is generally more of interest to us.
    6. Sites: Not of interest to us.
  3. To get a feel for how active the site is, I suggest we watch the daily average and monthly totals for Visits and Pages Views.
