- Interpretive Comments: The photograph is a close-up of a 398th B-17 in formation. Note the ball turret aimed straight down. The fuselage lettering is 3O-B, which indicates the 601st Squadron. The A/C No. is 337889, and the shorthand ID is 7889-B.
There is a distant formation element in the upper right and the above B-17 is the lead of it's own element. The photograph appears to be taken from the deputy position and the left wingman is to the photograph left.
